The design challenge involved rapid concept development and prototyping for a light-weight task chair that encompassed the research in ergonomic posture provided by our studio guest professor.

Design parameters specified that the chair must be comfortable to sit in for long periods without creating fatigue, allow rapid transfers from a seated position, and be easy to relocate in the work environment.

The chair must be designed and completed in two and a half weeks. Construction materials were limited to plywood and metal rods. The chair seat must incorporate ergonomic principles provided by the client.

The prototype incorporates the concepts for a comfortable, durable, lightweight, easily transportable chair that allows easy egress. The seat and back incorporate the requested ergonomics. Handles provide mechanically efficient lift for egress and balanced carrying.

Minimalist design keeps production costs down. Ease of access is facilitated by handles that are not meant as armrests. The chair is comfortable to sit in for long periods and is easily transported.
