This design challenge required creation of an affordable but distinctive luminaire that ships flat with minimal secondary processing. It must be either a ready-to-assemble kit or can easily be assembled by a reseller. The lamp must be an interesting three-dimensional shape created from two-dimensional materials.
Flat Pack Luminaire
Flat design restrictions initially led me toward cuboid prismatic solutions, but these seemed conventional. I considered other three-dimensional objects constructed from two-dimensional components and conceptualized a woven basket. Rather than a simple cylinder or sphere, I then visualized a vase-like structure that would more creatively hold light.
Basket Luminaire is an innovative, multi-purpose, easily assembled flat pack lamp. It can be an accent piece or a bedroom lamp.
